Education Philosophy

A. The author for education comes from two things. First, God commands that we be taught to love Him and put Him first. Second, parents are responsible for the education and training of their children. When the children enroll at the school, the school becomes a partner with the parents in giving them education.

B. The Administration and Faculty of Calvary Chapel Mission School believe that the Bible is God’s word and that it reveals the truth about God, man and salvation. These truths may be summarized as follows:
1. The Bible tells us that God created the world and since that time He has been sustaining it. All things He made should bring glory to Him. This is especially true of man because he was made in the image of God. Man is liable to know God and respond to Him, thus he can have a personal relationship with God.
2. Man, however, lost this relationship because he failed to keep God’s commands. As a result of man’s disobedience, his heart became evil, and he fell under God’s punishment. The punishment which the Bible calls death is separation from God.
3. In order to once again have fellowship with God, man needs to be changed inwardly.
4. This change is called the new birth (or the new life) in the Bible, to help the student realize the interdependence of all people and to prepare him to be a contributing member of his society.
5. To teach the students to use time wisely.
6. To develop proper attitudes towards marriage and family
7. To promote physical fitness, good health habits and cares of the body as the temple of God.
8. To teach biblical attitudes towards material things and the use of them for God’s glory.
9. To promote good citizenship by developing understanding of the biblical truths: a) That man is accountable for the way he uses his freedoms b) That all people are to be treated with respect c) That everyone should obey those in authority

C. Academically, the school endeavors:
1. To promote high academic standards within the abilities of the individual.
2. To develop creative and critical thinking, using biblical truths as the basis for evaluation.
3. To help each student gain a command of mathematics and the oral and written processes used in communicating with others.
4. To relate historical and current events to God’s plan for manTo help the students understand the laws of God’s creation and to wisely use and preserve the environment.
5. To teach and encourage the use of good study habits
6. To help the parents understand the school’s purpose and program.
7. To aid families in Christian growth and to help them develop Christ-centered homes.
4. To encourage involvement in a local church. Therefore, the school will teach the student the Bible so that he/she will understand God, himself, and understand his role in God’s plan. This will help him see the spiritual, mental, social, and physical aspects of his life from God’s perspective. He will be taught to interpret all facts by God’s word because God is the source of all truth. The school recognizes that each student has his own unique personalities and abilities. Therefore, the teacher will seek to instruct each student as an individual, helping him learn to live and work with others at home and in the society.

Objectives

A. For the spiritual and moral growth of the student, the school seeks:
1. To teach the Bible as God’s inspired Word and to respect it.
2. To teach the Bible both expositorily and topically.
3. To teach each student to confess Christ as Lord and Savior.
4. To develop a desire to know and to obey the will of God revealed in the Bible.
5. To help the student understand the mission and the work of the church. To develop a desire for godliness and to teach how to overcome sin.

B. For the student’s personal and social development, the school seeks:
1. To help the student understand and accept himself as a unique individual created in the image of God.
2. To teach the student to treat others with love and respect since they too are made in the image of God.
3. The new birth is possible only because of what Jesus Christ, the Son of God did. He took the punishment of sin by dying on the cross so that each man would not have to die for his sin. After Jesus’ death and burial, God raised him from the dead and gave him new life. This Jesus is the only way through which man can have the new life and right fellowship with God.
4. Man can have new relationship with God bya) Confessing that he is a sinner deserving to dieb) Believing that Jesus died in his place, andc) Receiving by faith the new life fellowship with God that only Jesus can give.
5. It is only left for man to accept this new life as God speaks to his heart through the power of the Holy Spirit.
